Service Learning

Lake Michigan Academy students are encouraged to actively support our community.

Each year, students of Lake Michigan Academy participate in a variety of service learning activities that bring what is being learned in the classroom into the real-world. These opportunities allow our students to connect with our community in a meaningful way, while providing opportunity to further develop valued character traits, such as empathy, compassion, and responsibility.

Some of the service learning activities in which Lake Michigan Academy students have participated include:

• preparing sack dinners at Kids' Food Basket
• baking cookies for guests of the Ronald McDonald House
• writing letters and making cards for troops serving overseas
• passing out candy to local businesses on Halloween
• creating a welcome banner for the clients of Family Promise
• caroling at local businesses and passing out candy canes
• picking up litter in the Ridgemoor neighborhood on Earth Day
• providing a hot dog lunch to those experiencing homelessness
